Hi, I’m Paula of Nordic Walk with Paula.
I first saw Nordic Walking on Countryfile a number of years ago when a Presenter took part in a Nordic Walk. I knew I wanted to do it myself although I parked the idea for what turned into a few years. One day I decided to buy some poles so I rang the Nordic Walking UK shop and got some advice. I still use those poles today – talk about fantastic value for money!
I had a dilemma – I had the poles but didn’t know how to use them. My first two enquiries to different local instructors didn’t come to anything but the third call was most definitely a case of third time lucky! Not only did I learn how to Nordic Walk, I bought a grieving friend to the rest of the sessions and I discovered Esher Common.
After the first few sessions I decided that I wanted to become an Instructor myself and before long I found myself studying. I had a number of exams to sit as I didn’t have a fitness background. I’ve also continued studying and will shortly complete my GP Referral qualification. I also have a First Aid qualification.
Being an Instructor is a massive blessing in my life. I didn’t realise that I’d love it as much as I do. We laugh lots, support each other and get fit, more flexible and stronger (mentally and physically) at the same time. I love it when my walkers arrive with the weight of a busy, stressful week on their shoulders and leave with a lighter step and a huge grin on their faces. I just love it! I want to help people be healthier and happier for themselves first and foremost, for their family and friends, for work colleagues and also for the wider community. Step-by-step we’ll get Surrey happier and healthier.
I have a degenerative disc in my lumbar spine and when it goes boy do I know about it! I can honestly say that the combination of Nordic Walking and yoga has done wonders for me. I’ll tell you more about this when we meet.
Home is busy. I share my world with 2 daughters, a grandson, 2 dogs and a cat. I work part time and I teach Nordic Walking. Hand on my heart I can say that Nordic Walking is my sanity, my balance, my peace, my doctor, my creativity, my positivity and my inspiration. I can’t wait to make this my full time career.

I first saw Nordic Walking on Countryfile, it looked great fun and I knew I wanted to try it. Confession time, it took me a couple of years before I made the decision to actually do it. I rang Head Office to get advice about which poles to buy and then had to find an Instructor, which I did through the Nordic Walking UK website.
Well, that was it! I was hooked after the first session and bought a friend along to the second. We loved it, and were amazed how quickly our fitness improved week on week. Without realizing it, we were getting a full body workout, enjoying being outside rain or shine and meeting like-minded people.
Within a matter of sessions I decided that I was going to be an Instructor and before I knew it I was studying!
I have had long standing problems with my weight and lower back pain and would love to share some stories with you.
Come and along join me, I don’t want to change you but I do want to help you be the best that you can be.
Best wishes and I look forward to meeting you.
